Planning a vacation or business trip? Whether you’re heading across the border or around the world, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of packing and planning. But, before you take off, it’s essential to check your travel insurance coverage, especially what’s included in your employee benefits plan.

Here’s your simple before-travel insurance checklist to help provide peace of mind while you’re away:

Check with your employee benefits for coverage.

The good news is that all Navy & Sage Benefits plans include Emergency Out-of-Country Coverage.

This coverage typically covers unexpected medical emergencies while travelling outside of Canada. Be sure to review your benefits plan or contact your plan administrator to understand precisely what’s included.

Know the length of time you’re covered for.

Many plans have a time limit on out-of-country coverage, typically 15 to 60 days. If you’re planning an extended trip, make sure your coverage lasts the full duration. If not, give us a call and we can ensure that you remain covered for the length of your trip.

Confirm who’s covered under the plan.

Is your partner or child joining you on the trip? Make sure they’re also covered under your benefits plan. Family coverage isn’t always automatic, so double-check your policy to avoid surprises.

Ensure you’re healthy enough to travel.

Most emergency travel insurance doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions unless they’ve been stable for a certain period. If you’re dealing with any medical issues, it’s a good idea to check in with your doctor and confirm your condition meets the policy’s stability requirements.

Check for any travel advisories.

Before you book (and definitely before you go), visit the Government of Canada’s Travel Advice and Advisories website. Travelling to a country with an active government travel advisory could impact your insurance coverage.

Keep your health insurance info with you.

Having these details on hand can save valuable time in an emergency. Before setting off, contact your plan advisor to find out what information you should keep on hand. You can easily save it on your phone. This will give you peace of mind and be accessible in case of any emergencies.

Let Navy & Sage Benefits be your travel partner.

Travel emergencies can be stressful, but being prepared with the right coverage helps you focus on what matters most: enjoying your trip!
