COVID-19 Surcharges & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Surcharges related to COVID-19/PPE may be applied to claims by various dental offices and other practitioners as they resume operations. The various accreditation bodies and dental associations are currently reviewing the expenses and they may take different approaches. For example, the Canadian Dental Association has provided some codes with fees and guidelines to be determined. Carriers will review the surcharges and take into account the various fee codes and guidelines of accreditation bodies and associations as part of their claims adjudication process. Any surcharge related to COVID-19/PPE needs to be formally approved by the relevant accreditation body and/or association and remains subject to the terms of the group insurance policy.
If one of your plan members experiences a denied claim for a surcharge related to COVID-19/PPE, please contact a member of the Navy & Sage Benefits team for support.
