Pay Transparency Legislation

British Columbia’s Bill 13 – 2023 Pay Transparency Act comes into effect on November 1, 2023.

Here are some key points for employers:

Job Advertisements:

Employers must state the expected salary or its range in publicly advertised job postings, along with any other mandatory information, unless an exemption applies.

Pay History:

Employers are prohibited from seeking an applicant’s pay history, unless it’s publicly available.

Protection Against Reprisals:

Employers can’t penalize employees for inquiring about their pay, sharing their pay information, asking about pay transparency reports, requesting compliance with this Act, or reporting non-compliance.
